If you’ve tried the magic creams, applied the miracle pastes and peeled off more masks than a theatre troupe you may be left wondering what else is there left to try to help rejuvenate your skin…
This is where the world of dermal fillers comes in – a cosmetic treatment that uses science rather than mysticism to help restore and improve the appearance of your skin.
Dermal fillers are small injections of a body safe gel that help to fill in hollow areas in the skin – these are typically areas that have lost the collagen and elastin usually produced by the body when we are younger (under the age of 25).
The loss of these substances within the skin causes hollows and dips, often in areas that see a lot of movement such as around the eyes, cheeks and lips. These hollows combined with a loss of elasticity are also partly responsible for causing wrinkles! Dermal fillers help to fill in these areas and provide lift to the skin again – softening wrinkles and giving a smoother and more youthful appearance.
Dermal fillers are often mistaken for being Botox but these are two very different things! Botox works by preventing the small muscles in the face from making the movements that show the wrinkles, rather than plumping up the area under the wrinkles to smooth them out. Since the muscles in your face are still free to move and aren’t ‘stiff’ the effect from dermal fillers tends to be much more subtle and natural than Botox and the effects also tend to last twice as long - around 6 to 12 months!
Dermal fillers, therefore, really work and are even considered to be one of the most sustainable and natural looking ways to rejuvenate your skin! At St Mary’s House we take great pride in being able to offer our clients a high-quality rejuvenation experience with us, so if you have any questions or concerns about receiving dermal fillers we would be more than happy to talk through them with you, simply contact us for more details!
