Regular Check Ups

Why are regular dental check ups important?

It can be easy to forget about self care when our lives get busy but just as we take the time to focus more on our work/life balance for our emotional wellbeing it’s also important to take some time to focus on dental care for our physical wellbeing, but the reasons why may surprise you!

It helps to prevent painful and invasive treatments.

This is perhaps one of the most obvious benefits of a regular check up but by checking your teeth regularly your dentist can find any issues before they start causing you discomfort or damage to your teeth and gums. As well as keeping you healthy this can save you a lot of time and money as any problems can be sorted before they develop too seriously. £105 million pounds a year is lost to sick days from oral health issues – so investing some time in looking after your teeth can really pay off for your career too!

It keeps your teeth cleaner and healthier.

As well as checking the health of your teeth and gums a regular check up also offers the chance for your dentist to remove any plaque and tartar build up. This not only improves the health of your teeth and gums by removing irritation and bacteria that can cause issues, but also improves the look of your teeth too – helping with surface discolouration and making for a whiter smile!

Keeps you cancer free!

As well as checking for cavities or other common dental health problems having a regular check-up also allows your dentist to check for more serious issues such as oral cancers. Your dentist can use regular X-rays to not only check your teeth but to also keep an eye on your jaw bone. They can also check the lymph nodes in your head and neck which allows your dentist to look for less obvious health problems and treat them as soon as they are discovered!

People with good oral health may only need a check up once a year but those with more problems may benefit from having a check up every 3-6 months – your dentist can recommend a time frame that will best suit your oral health.
