Tired Eyes

Magic creams aren’t cutting it. Cucumber slices are better off in sandwiches and while your nana’s oatmeal face mask makes great porridge doesn’t seem to do much for those ever-present dark circles. You’ve tried everything, so what can you do now?

First it is important to understand that just because your eyes look tired doesn’t mean you are tired! Dark circles under our eyes can make us look tired and run down even when we are well rested because the under-eye skin is thin and so the darker coloured blood vessels are more easily visible through it. This can be a particular issue for those with paler skin tones as any darkening caused by these blood vessels (or from pigmentation problems and sun exposure) will be more obvious.

Clinical facial peels can really help with this particular issue as they remove the uppermost layer of tissue to reveal fresher and healthier skin underneath – reducing pigmentation. This treatment has the added bonus that it works particularly well for those with lighter skin tones and, since it is a full-face treatment, also helps other areas of discoloration and rejuvenates the whole face!

Perhaps, though, you’ve been on point with your sunscreen and are just ‘born tired.’ Some facial shapes with a more defined eye socket area actually increase the appearance of shadows due to the way light hits the face. This effect is also something that can happen as we age and lose collagen and volume in the area - so it could literally be that your genetics at fault!

If you have a more defined eye socket area then it’s likely that you’d benefit the most from a dermal filler treatment. Dermal fillers work by increasing volume under the eye, lifting it upwards and reducing the shadow caused by the eye socket itself – rejuvenating the area entirely. Fillers are very different from Botox and last much longer – usually 6 – 12 months! Please enquire within the practice for more information.

So, if you’ve done that health kick, tried moisturising daily, stopped the coffee, and drank enough water to sink a rowboat it could really be worth trying something different for those dark circles through a facial aesthetic treatment!
